Love What You Have
January 15, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
Hair styles change so quickly, that it’s hard to keep up with what is currently in style and what’s out of style. It generally depends what hot celebrity wore her hair in a certain way on the red carpet at the latest awards show. But what doesn’t go out of style or change with any frequency is the natural hair that you were born with. Sure, it’s easy to say that you would like a different type of hair. After all, we all seem to want what we don’t have. But, it’s much more effective and better for your self esteem if you learn to embrace what you were born with and learn how to love it.
For better or worse, we were all born with a certain type of hair. Some of us have naturally curly hair, while others have bone straight hair. It seems that we are always yearning for what we don’t have. And sure, it’s great to grab your hair tools and mix it up a little bit giving your normally curly hair a straight look, but what’s wrong with your hair every day looking the way nature intended it? Nothing.
I believe that you should never wear your hair the same every day. After all, that gets boring and isn’t it more exciting to keep people guessing and wondering what you’re going to do? But the first thing you need to do is love the hair you have. Even if it’s not the style that you would have given yourself had you been handing out the hair styles, it’s your hair and you’re stuck with it. So if you have naturally curly hair, instead of using your hair straightener every day, why not wear it curly some of the time? After all, those of us with straight hair will go green with envy for your beautiful natural curls.
Likewise, if you have straight hair, you don’t have to spend all that time in front of the mirror with your curling iron creating luscious waves, because straight hair is sexy too.
When it
comes to the thickness of your hair that is something that you can’t really do much about. Those people born with thin hair often bemoan the fact that they want more body in their hair, and would love to have it thicker. But think about the other side of that. If you have thick hair, it can take more than twice as long to blow dry it, it becomes tangled, and often it will look puffy because there’s so much of it. Never mind how hard it can be to pull it back into a simple pony tail. There are always two sides to everything, and as women, we often forget to look at what we have and appreciate it. It’s too easy to covet something that we don’t have.
Hair tools are great, and I think that everyone should have a professional hair straightener and curling iron in their arsenal of styling tools, because they give us options. We can magically turn our naturally curly hair into a sleek style one day and wear it free and curly the next day. But no matter what type of hair tool you have, and what style you create, learn to love what nature gave you because you are the only one with hair like yours.
Resolve To Have Style In 2009!
January 6, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
So it’s a new year, and if you’re like most people, you probably have a New Years resolution or two. And if you are like most people, you may have already broken those resolutions by now, the first week of January. So why not make a resolution that you can actually keep? Make the New Years resolution that you are going to pay more attention to your style and give your hair the treatment that it deserves.
Too many people take their hair for granted. Giving it a quick brush in the morning, or throwing it up in a pony tail. But your hair can be so much more, and it should be. So why not utilize your hair to its full potential and use it to really show off your style. Your hair is actually an extension of yourself, and with a little bit of care and the right hair styling tools, you will easily be able to create whatever styles reflect your personality.
The first thing you need to do is to be sure that your hair is in optimal condition. And if you’ve been neglecting your hair for awhile, you may need a little bit of work in this area. The first step would be to visit a hair stylist for a trim and a little shaping. Tell them what you are trying to achieve and a good stylist will be able to create that for you. And if you don’t know what you want to achieve with your hair, simply let them know a little bit about your personality and your lifestyle and let them take it from there.
Once your hair has been trimmed and you’re ready to go, you will need to invest in a good hair straightener. The hair straightener is the way to go if you are new to hair styling because you don’t need a full drawer of styling implements to get started. This one hair iron should do the trick.
If your hair is curly or has a natural wave, you can use the hair iron to straighten it for a complete new look. But don’t stop there. You can also use the hair straightener to create flips and tucks with the ends of your hair, giving it a bit of style and pizzazz.
If you already have straight hair, use the hair straightener to add curls and waves to your hair giving it volume. Yes, you can curl your hair with a hair straightener!
It is important however when you are choosing a hair straightener to choose one that is going to treat your hair well. Because what’s the point trying to achieve beautiful styles when you’re just causing damage to your hair? And if you don’t pick the right hair straightener, that’s exactly what you will be doing. Look for a hair iron with tourmaline. Tourmaline works by infusing your hair with negative ions that actually seal the hair cuticle locking in natural oils and moisture so your hair looks and feels healthier and shiner than ever before.
You should also look for a ceramic plate hair straighter, or a titanium plate hair straighter because these plate types are the best for your hair providing you with the proper heat distribution, without snagging or pulling your hair.
So this year, make a New Years resolution that you will actually keep and invest some time and effort into your own personal style.
When is it Time to Get a New Blow Dryer?
November 4, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
When you look at a list of the necessary hair tools that you will need to recreate your beautiful salon hair style at home, if you are like most people, you will already have at least one of the tools on that list. The hair dryer. The hair dryer is probably one of the most common hair tools in women’s bathrooms across the world. So, there’s a good chance that you already have one.
But should you own that particular hair dryer? This is the question that you should ask yourself if you’ve been looking at the same hair dryer every morning for years. How old is your hair dryer? I have friends who have proudly informed me that they have had the same hair dryer since they were teenagers. Well, I suppose that demonstrates that you can’t throw anything out, but does it tell you that you have a quality dryer?
Of course, you may argue that if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. But just because a machine can last for two decades does not mean that it’s a quality hair dryer. Don’t you owe it yourself and your hair to upgrade your tools a little bit? I think you do.
So why should you part with your retro hair dryer? Well for starters, technology has come along way since you bought your blow dryer ten or twenty years ago. Now, you can blow dry your hair in a fraction of the time that it takes you with your old machine. That means that not only will you be able to cut your styling time in half, but you will be exposing your hair to much less time under the heat which means that you will be protecting your hair from excessive styling heat.
But don’t worry, with today’s new dryers you won’t be damaging your hair anyway. Ceramic covered elements and hair dryers with tourmaline technology actually emit negative ions that work to dry your hair faster and to close the hair shaft which means the hair will be laying down flat on your head which makes it look smooth and healthy. Not only will your hair look smooth, it will be healthier. Tourmaline technology has been shown to actually improve the health of the hair shaft which means beautiful, bouncy hair for you.
If that’s not enough to convince you to get a new dryer - consider this. Older hair dryers can become safety hazards because they get clogged with hair and lint. In many older models of dryers, you cannot easily remove the back to get at the fine filter in order to clean it. That means that you cannot remove the build up that could potentially present a problem. Older dryers use more energy and generate more heat, and if you have a build up of lint and hair in your dryer, you are setting the stage for a fire hazard. It is not unusual to hear of fireballs coming out of the back of old and dirty blow dryers.
So, out with the old and in with the new. It’s time to upgrade your hair styling equipment and reward yourself and your hair with the latest technology that will give you the beautiful, healthy hair that you deserve.
Blow Me Over: Understanding Hair Dryers
Most women (and some men) have a blow dryer in their bathroom. It’s one of those tools appliances that most people tend to take for granted. Everyday, you get out of the shower, your hair sopping wet and start blowing it dry. But have you ever thought about your blow dryer and questioned whether you have the right one for your needs? Not many people do.
Because your blow dryer is one of the most frequently used hair tools you have. You owe it to yourself, and your hair, to give it a little bit of thought. Choosing the correct blow dryer will help you create the beautiful hair styles that you crave. But you have to do your research and find the right dryer for your needs.
So where do you begin? If you’re like most people, you haven’t given your blow dryer much consideration. Maybe you chose the dryer that was on sale, or the smallest one to fit in your drawer. Or maybe you have the same old hair dryer that you’ve had since you were in high school! However you chose your hair dryer, it’s time for you to start choosing for the all right reasons.
The first thing that you need to understand is wattage. Each blow dryer has a certain wattage which determines how strong it is and ultimately how much heat it puts out. If you are the type of person who is always in a hurry and you want to get your hair dry in a hurry, you will want a dryer with 2000 watts or higher. Going with something slightly less powerful, such as an 1800 watt dryer, will also get the job done in a reasonable time. If you have short or fine hair that doesn’t take long to dry, maybe wattage isn’t a big factor. However if you have long thick hair, this should be an important factor for you.
If it’s possible you should try out a hair dryer before you buy it. It isn’t always possible to try them before buying, but if it is, try to take advantage of it. It’s good to get a feel for the weight of a dryer, and how easy it is to maneuver and if the cord gets wrapped up and in your way. These details may seem small, but if you are making an investment, these are the little things that will make the difference.
You may think that hair dryers damage your hair because of the intense heat that they use, but this doesn’t have to be true. There are now negative ion dryers that utilize ionic technology. These dryers blow negative ions over the hair which not only dries your hair in half the time as a conventional dryer, but also help to keep your hair looking soft, shiny and healthy. Negative ion energy actually works by closing the hair shaft which protects the hair resulting in healthy, healthier hair.
Some people like to choose blow dryers that come with a great deal of attachments. For some – more is better. Be sure that whatever attachments a hair dryer comes with, they are useful for your type of hair. You will want a nozzle on your dryer as you can get a bit closer to your hair without damaging it. Some dryers come with a diffuser attachment. This type of attachment is great for professional hair stylists, or people with curly hair that need a diffused heat to dry their hair.
Ultimately when you choose a hair dryer, price will also be an issue for many people. However, when it comes to an investment that will last you for years remember that a quality dryer will save you time and money in the long run, not to mention that a quality dryer will protect the health of your hair as well!

Embrace Those Natural Wavy Curls

Women who have naturally wavy hair are starting to see that maybe using a hair straightening iron to get rid of those beautiful wavy curls may actually be a mistake. Many stars are now sporting loose wavy curls showing women just how sexy this can be. Save time in your day by getting rid of those hair straighteners and embracing those natural curls for a sexy natural look. If you were born with straight locks you can get on the loose curl trend by adding some with a large barreled curling iron, a large brush, and a little bit of spritz.
Negative Ions & Your Hair
August 15, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Science has proven that negative ions infused into hair will help it retain its own natural moisture, and this will result in healthier hair. Women do so much to their hair with excess washing, styling, and dyeing to continually try and look their best. It is so nice to know that by investing just a little bit in a ionic hair dryer the negative ions from the dryer can help your hair stay healthy despite the constant styling. These blow dryers will not dry out your hair and not only will it be healthier and more luxuriant; it will also be less susceptible to damaging split ends.
How to Roller Set
July 31, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
First you want to make sure your hair is clean so shampoo and condition then towel dry. Use a setting gel or mousse to hold curl. If you have thin fine hair, I recommend not using a conditioner. Try just a small amount of spray in conditioner (I always emphasize on using products that do not contain alcohol) . Using conditioner on this specific hair type will cause the curl to not hold as long as it should. Also, try to use a thickening type gel or mousse. Your local Drugstore or Hairdresser will be able to help you chose a setting lotion that will work for you.
- Using a fine toothed comb with a pick like handle (these are called rat tail combs)
- Take a section on the top front of your head no bigger than the roller itself.
- Pull this forward as shown is diagram 1 and roll back, keeping tight, loose rolling will result in a loose curl and you will notice this once you are done. Note: Try not to use the velcro type rollers as they don’t stay in place tight enough, and will leave you with loose curls.
- Pin either side of the roller with a secure type clip.
- Do this process all over always rolling back. As shown in diagram 2. Always make sure you are stretching the hair and not pulling it. Pulling too hard will result in a line showing once the rollers are removed. It is harder to not get this line on fine thin hair so be sure to never pull, stretch just as far as the hair will go naturally.
- When you are finished place a hair net (you can even use a plastic bag or nothing at all) over your hair and sit under a dryer until completely dry. Note: if you do not have a dryer and you have a little bit of time on your hands just do your daily duties with the roller set intact and once dry remove rollers.
- Once rollers are removed brush with a good bristle brush, it is not ideal to use the plastic type bristles.
Once you have brushed your hair out you will notice that you can almost make your hair do anything you want. This is a true benefit of roller setting. Usually your hair will hold this look for as many as 3 days before you will have to wash it again. I have known ladies to be able to leave it as long as a week. They would just come in every Monday or whenever their week was up and get their blow-dry roller set. This, of course depends on hair type, like I have said before, some people are just lucky with the hair they were born with. The average hair type can go 2-3 days without a noticeable shampoo.
Roller setting is quite easy and once you get the hang of it can be done in minutes flat.
Success Straightening Hair with a Flat Iron
June 10, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Sleek, shiny straight hair is absolutely gorgeous, and many Hollywood stars know this and wear the look often while out in public. Not only is it a sexy look, it is so much easier to achieve than most hairstyles. Really for a great straight hair look, all you need is healthy hair and a good professional hair iron to smooth out the hair. The emphasis is on good quality hair irons since they are easier to use and are much safer on your hair than cheap models that you may find at a drugstore which will damage your hair and leave it looking less than it’s best.
Once you have you have a good tourmaline ceramic hair straightener and hopefully you have a healthy head of hair, then straightening may take a little bit of practice to get the hang of the handling the tool. You should always start at your roots and the underneath layers of hair and slowly use the flat iron from root to tip in gliding motions. Work your way like this all around your head and from the bottom layers up and you will end up with a perfect straightening job every time with just a few practice glides.
Curling & Straightening with a Flat Iron
June 5, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
If you like to go back and forth between straight hair and wavy or curly hair you may be surprised to know that the only professional hair styling tool you need is a hair straightening iron. Most women think you have to have a curling iron and a flat iron if you want to achieve these looks, but with a professional flat iron and little practice you can achieve any of them very easily with just the flat iron.
The main difference in these looks is how you glide the hair iron through your hair. With all of the styles you start at the root of your hair and glide the ceramic hair iron slowly to the tip. Of course for straight hair you smoothly and slowly glide straight down the strands of hair. But for curly or wavy hair instead of gliding smoothly down the length of the hair you use a twist. This twisting motion will add a little bit of body to the curl, and the more you turn your wrist the more the curl will be pronounced in your hairs appearance.
Of course this sounds easy, and really it is. But as with most things you may not get it on the first try. Just keep practicing with your hair staightening iron and soon your friends will think you are spending a fortune at the salon.
