Getting the Right Temperature on Your Hair Iron For You

April 9, 2009 by tracy · Leave a Comment

One mistake so many women make when they begin using a hair iron to straighten their hair is to turn the temperature setting on the iron to its maximum level. Many feel that the higher the heat the more effective the iron will be. To some degree this is true but that is not the only thing you need to consider when setting the heat on your variable temperature hair iron such as the Babyliss pro flat iron.

Some hair irons have an upper limit of approximately 200 degrees while others may go all the way up to the area of 400 degrees. Yes, the higher the temperature setting the better job the iron will do straightening your hair and the longer that style will stay locked into your tresses. But for those with damaged or thin hair this high temperature can be devastating to the health of your hair and cause excessive damage. Most women should consider setting the temperature of the iron in the mid to low levels and use them at this setting. With time and experience with your hair iron you will learn your hairstyle and know whether this is effective for you. If it is not than you can start moving the temperature setting up a little at a time until you find the optimal one for you.

Grab Some Hair Tools and Try Something Different.

When you get ready in the morning, do you do the same old thing every day? Are you sick of the same hair style? We are creatures of habit and when something becomes a habit or a routine, it becomes all too easy to fall into a rut. And that is just as true for our hair styles than anything else in life. If you are used to wearing your naturally straight hair down, without doing much too it, you will likely do that everyday. Likewise, if you always pull your hair into a pony tail, it becomes all too easy to do that everyday.

Well, it’s time for a change. There is no reason that you have to do the same thing with your hair all the time. Just because you always wear your hair one way does not mean that you have to stay that way. Mix it up. Many women use the excuse that “It’s too hard to try something new.” Or, “I don’t have time in the morning to do anything different.” Those excuses don’t hold any water, because there are a lot of easy and quick ways to change things up. All you need are the right tools.

With a hair straightener, you can achieve a wide variety of new and interesting styles and it doesn’t have to take much time at all. For example, if you normally wear your hair straight, take your hair straightener and try flipping up the ends of your hair, or curling the ends under slightly to make an easy bob style. Just this one simple change, will give you a completely different look and it doesn’t take any longer than just straightening your hair would.

If you want to try something that offers a little more change, take your hair straightener and use it to create loose, waves and curls. This look is very easy to achieve and doesn’t take long at all to create a completely different look on days you want to change it up.

Of course if you have naturally curly hair, you can change it up by using a hair straightener with ceramic plates to straighten your hair. Ceramic plates are the best choice because they use far infrared heat to infuse your hair with moisture, locking in the moisture in the hair, so your hair doesn’t look frizzy or damaged. It’s quick and easy to straighten your hair if you have the right iron at your disposal.

Beautiful hair styles can also be created by using a mixture of curls and straight hair. Consider putting your hair in a half pony tail and using your hair straightener or curling iron to curl the hair that has been pulled up.

There are a lot of options available to you that don’t need to take a great deal of time. The best thing to do is to experiment and try out a number of different looks. After all, there is no reason your hair needs to look the same everyday. In fact, you may discover that you like it a lot better a different way.

Hair Straightners With Tourmaline

January 5, 2009 by Elena · Leave a Comment

If you are new to hair straighteners, or you simply haven’t shopped around for an updated tool in a little while, you may be confused with some of the new products that are available these days. There have been considerable number of advancements in the hair styling world and that includes the development of new and exciting hair tools that work even better than before. If you are still using a glass or metal hair straightener to style your hair, stop now before you do even more damage to your hair! You owe it to yourself to check out what’s new with hair irons.

When it comes to hair straighteners, you may have heard about new hair irons that utilize tourmaline. If you’re unsure about what tourmaline is, it is a naturally occurring element that is found in nature. Tourmaline is a natural source of negative ions when heat is applied, and it emits a large quantity of these ions. The reason that tourmaline is important to hair straighteners is because when the heat from the iron heats up the tourmaline, negative ions are created and those negative ions are actually a great benefit to your hair.

When negative ions are emitted from a hair straightener, they infuse each hair, going directly into the hair shaft. Negative ions actually close the hair cuticle sealing in natural oils and moisture. Because all of the hair cuticles are flattened it means that every hair on your head will lay flat on your head instead of sticking up and looking frizzy and over treated. And because all of the natural oils and moisture are locked into each hair, your hair will be soft and manageable instead of dry and frizzy. In fact, your hair will likely look better than it ever has before, healthier and more radiant.

And there’s more. Tourmaline also produces far infrared heat which works to dry your hair from the inside out instead of the other way around. What does that mean to you? Well, it means more time because it only takes a fraction of time to straighten your hair with a tourmaline iron than other types which means that you will be out the door with perfectly styled hair in no time. And because less heat is required to accomplish the straightened look it means that your hair isn’t exposed to harmful heat for very long minimizing the chance of any damage ever occurring.

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice the quality of your hair just because you want to achieve a straight look. And using the old style glass and metal plate hair irons cause a great deal of damage to the health of the hair. No longer will you have to suffer through damaged, unhealthy hair all in the name of style. With the new tourmaline hair straighteners, you can accomplish beautiful sleek and sexy styles and actually make your hair healthier and more beautiful than you ever thought possible. So stop sacrificing and make the leap to a tourmaline hair straightener today.

Don’t be Scared of Trying Hair Irons

December 4, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

If you have never used a hair straightener before it can be intimidating to look in the style magazines or leave the hair salon with a beautiful new style and wonder how you are going to recreate it. Some women are so terrified by hair tools that they simply never bother. And that’s not the right solution. Hair irons are not scary at all. And they are not hard to use. If you are a first time user, there are a few things you should keep in mind however when it comes to hair straighteners.

The first thing you should do is start with clean, dry hair. Do not make the mistake of trying to style your hair for the first time when it has not been cleaned. Some women get very excited when their brand new hair iron arrives, they tear it out of the box and get down to work styling only to harm their hair, which not only leaves them with damaged hair, it leaves them feeling discouraged and often that hair straightener will go into a drawer and never come out again. So try to control yourself and be sure your hair is clean, free of product and dry before you begin.

It is absolutely crucial that you choose a quality hair straightener. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you can get away with a cheap iron. You will regret your decision because your hair will look dry; it will become damaged and possibly even burnt. And more than that, you won’t even get the style you are looking for in the process.

Look for quality hair irons that are made of ceramic or titanium plates and preferably irons that have tourmaline. These hair irons will give you the best results because not only will your hair be easier to style, these irons actually help your hair look and feel healthier because of the addition of ceramic, titanium and tourmaline. Do not cheap out when it comes to hair tools; go for quality because you will not be disappointed.

Practice makes perfect, and that’s true for hair styling as well. Take your time trying out your new hair iron. Section your hair into manageable sections and starting at the bottom, clamp a section of hair between the plates, drawing it slowly downward until you get to the tips of the hair. Repeat with the next section and work your way around your head. It can be tricky to get used to styling the back of your head if you’ve never done it before, but a good trick is to work in very small sections and go slowly. It gets easier every time you do it and soon you will be a pro.

Keep it simple when you first start out. There are a lot of different styles that you can achieve with one hair iron. However, when you are first starting out, it’s best to keep it simple. Work on perfecting one style at a time. Soon you can add flips, bobs and curls. A quality hair straightener is a very versatile tool and you will be amazed at how easy it is to create a wide variety of beautiful styles. And you’ll surprise yourself because you’ll catch on quicker than you think and soon the hair straightener won’t seem so intimidating after all.

Chemical Straighteners vs. Hair Straighteners

November 27, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

It’s inevitable; you want to change your hair style from time to time everyone does. But what if you have curly hair and you want to make it straight? You do have a few options available to you depending on what you are trying to achieve with your hair. Some people choose a chemical hair straightener over a hair iron because they think that straightening the hair permanently is the way to go. But what about the dangers of chemical hair straighteners? Is it safe?

Safety is definitely a concern when it comes to using a chemical hair straightener, because you are putting chemicals on your head and when there are chemicals involved there is always a concern for your health as well as your hair. Before any stylist uses a chemical hair straightener they should do a strand test. And why do you think they have to do a strand test? Well, because chemicals can cause harm, and by doing the strand test they are trying to determine how much damage will occur.

When you use chemicals on your hair they will almost certainly cause damage to your hair. And why would you want to damage your hair in the quest to create a beautiful style? That seems a bit backward. You should want to create a beautiful style, not a dry, damaged, frizzy style.

So what’s your other option? A hair straightener of course. One simple tool can straighten your hair safely, easily and not only will you be able to create the style you are looking for but your hair will look phenomenal as well. That’s because using a high quality hair straightener, one that utilizes the power of ceramic, titanium and tourmaline will actually improve the look of your hair. A quality hair straightener will infuse your hair with powerful negative ions that work to lock in the natural oils and shine in your hair cuticle allowing it to lay flat on your head. So not only will your hair be straight, it will be healthy, shiny and more beautiful than before. Forget the frizzy, over processed look.

Some people think that it will be easier and more convenient to use a chemical straightener. That way they can wake up every day and their hair will be straight without any effort. However, despite the risks to your health and the health of your hair, there are other issues involved with chemical straighteners. Your hair will require touch ups every few months, and the look is permanent. This means that if you decide that you want to wear your hair curly for a change, you’re out of luck.

And if you think that using a hair iron is not easy or fast, you are wrong! A quality hair straightener will straighten your hair out quickly and effectively which means that you can straighten your hair out every morning achieving the style that you want with minimal effort. And as an added benefit, your hair will be shiny, and healthy as well as sexy and sleek.

You do have choices when it comes to straightening your hair, but the only real choice for straightening your hair in a healthy way is a quality hair iron.

Am I Doing it Right?

November 17, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve gone to your hair dresser for your regular cut and style and the result is amazing. Excited to recreate the look at home, you buy all of the products that she recommends and spend the rest of the day enjoying your beautiful new look. The next day, eager to recreate your amazing hair style, you struggle with endless bottles of gel, hair spray a thermal spray. Your curling iron, hair straightener and blow dryer cords get maddeningly tangled and your hair ends up looking like a flat, greasy version of what it was when you left the salon.

Why is it that you can never seem to recreate the style that your stylist so easily gave you? After all, it is your hair right? True, your stylist likely went to school and received a great deal of training, and he or she does do this every day, but still, you would like to do it for yourself too. Of course you would. But unless you are independently wealthy, you don’t have a stylist in your bathroom every morning to help you get your hair just right. So what can you do?

The best thing that you can do for your hair style is to tell your stylist before she gets to work that you would like her to explain everything that she’s doing so you can do it yourself when you get home. Tell her what tools you have at home to work with. Do you have a hair straightener, a curling iron, a blow dryer? Let her know. Sure, some hair stylists might be a little annoyed by this, but at the end of the day, it is their job to make you look good and if they can teach you to make your hair look good on all the days between appointments, that’s excellent advertising for them. Most stylists won’t have any problem with this.

While they’re styling your hair, listen carefully and ask questions if they’re doing something that doesn’t make sense to you or confuses you. You can even ask to try it yourself so the stylist can correct your technique. Be careful with this though. You don’t want to take up too much time because stylists usually have quite a few appointments booked.

Be sure that you have all of the tools that you need and that they are the right tools. There is no point having a 1” barrel curling iron at home, if you need a 2” curling iron to create your look. Equip yourself with the proper gels, creams and sprays that you will need and be sure you know how much to use. Once you get home take some time to practice your look. Whatever you do, do not wait until the next morning when you are late for work and need to rush out the door. Give yourself some extra time until you get used to your look.

With the right tools, a great cut and a fabulous stylist, you will have everything you need to look beautiful every day. Keep practicing and soon you will look like you just walked out of a salon everyday.

Using Your Hair Dryer Properly

November 13, 2008 by tracy · Leave a Comment

It would seem a hair dryer is a simple enough hair styling tool that it would be hard to not use it correctly, but many women do simply because they do not know better. This incorrect usage of their dryer results in lose of moisture in their hair that results in that dry frizzy look that makes hair hard to style and unhealthy looking. Cheap hair dryers are never good for your hair, as they will only dry out your hair and leave it unhealthy. The best hair dryers will have variable temperature settings and even cool shot buttons and learning how to use these properly are key to getting the most from your dryer and getting the best styles.

How to Create a Variety of Styles with your Flat Iron

November 11, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

How many people do you know that have a hair straightener but aren’t getting the full use out of it? You might be one of them. It’s okay, you can admit it. Most people who have a hair straightener use it for one thing only – straightening their hair. And sure, that’s what the tool was designed for sure. But there is so much more that you can do with your tool that if you are only using it to make your hair straight, you are wasting the potential of your tool.

The first thing you need to do is start using your imagination. Sure, straight hair is nice, but just like anything else, it can get boring if that’s all you do every day. Mix it up a bit. You can use your hair iron to add fun flips to your hair, and it’s really easy to do.

The first thing you should do is straighten your hair as you normally would if it’s quite curly. Once you have a good base style, you can start adding to it. Section your hair using clips to keep the rest of the hair out of the way. Start with a small section and run the iron down to the ends. To get your hair to flip out, twist the hair iron up. To achieve a hair under style, like a bob – twist the iron under and the ends will curl under.

Continue along your head, flipping your hair out or in as you desire. Do each section one at a time, do not try to do thick pieces of hair or you may get frustrated with the results. If you want to mix up the style a bit, you can actually mix up the flips that you do. Try to do the bottom layer of hair by flipping the ends under, while you do the top layer by flipping the hair out. This creates another fun style to try out. By only flipping out or in the ends of your hair you can create a few more fun styles than the same old straight look.

Another fun style to try with your hair iron is loose sexy curls. Again, you must start by sectioning your hair into manageable pieces. Depending on how much curl you want, you can start close to the root of your hair, or half way down. This is a matter of personal preference and may take some experimenting to decide what you like the best. Take the section that you are starting with and clamp the iron down at the top of your head (or halfway down depending on where you are starting). Twist the iron around the hair 180 degrees, pulling the iron down as you twist.

You can control the tightness of the curl by how fast you pull the iron down the hair. The faster you pull down, the looser the curl will be. If you go slowly the curl will be tighter. Also, if you use larger sections the result will be looser curls versus small, tighter curls by using small sections.

The style choices are limitless by using your hair iron for different styles. The key is to experiment a little bit and have fun. Use your imagination and you won’t have boring hair styles anymore.
