Forget the Frizzies

November 21, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

One of the biggest complaints when it comes to styling hair, is the over processed look that can often be created after hair is subjected to a great deal of styling and product overload. We’ve all seen it, a beautiful young girl walking down the street with over processed, frizzy damaged hair. In fact, you may have suffered from a bad case of the frizzies yourself. But do you have to put up with this damage just because you want to style your hair everyday? The answer is no.

It is not an automatic given that you need to trade the health of your hair for well styled hair. In fact, if you ask me, and many others, beautifully styled hair should look healthy, not over processed. So, how exactly do you achieve a balance of both? It’s really not very hard to have beautifully styled and healthy hair, but you do need to pay attention to a few things.

The first thing you must do is evaluate the condition of you hair right now. Is it already damaged and frizzy? Do you already have a problem? If you do, it’s okay. All is not lost. You simply need to work a bit harder at getting your hair back up to a healthy state. Spend some time deep conditioning your hair with hot oil treatments. Be sure that you are not brushing your hair when it’s wet or pulling through tangles that will rip your hair. You might want to consider getting a trim to take care of the damaged, dry ends.

One of the best investments that you can make for your hair and your overall style is purchasing quality hair tools. Quality hair tools will not only style your hair, they will improve the look of your hair as well. Choose a hair straightener with ceramic or titanium plates, and also look for the addition of tourmaline. Using tourmaline when you straighten your hair will infuse each hair with negative ions that actually close the cuticle, keeping your hair laying flat and looking smooth and beautiful. Not only will your hair look healthier, it will be healthier.

You can also inject your hair with negative ions by using a tourmaline powered blow dryer. Using a tourmaline hair dryer will actually dry your hair up to 70% faster than a regular hair dryer which means that you do not have to expose your hair to heat for long periods of time, which also protects your hair preventing the frizzies.

By choosing the right styling tools and spending a little bit of time treating your hair right, you do not have to sacrifice the health of your hair in order to style it. You can have both healthy and beautifully styled hair. So say good bye to the frizzies and hello to gorgeous healthy hair.

Avoiding That Winter Frizz

November 7, 2008 by tracy · Leave a Comment

Frizz can be a major problem in the winter do to the lack of moisture that is in the air to help our hair stay hydrated and healthy looking. One simple solution is to use a tourmaline professional hair dryer after you wash your hair or even before you style it to get rid of that frizzy hair that plagues you this time of year. Tourmaline when combined with ceramic releases lots of negative ions which will bind with the positive ions that are in your hair making it look frizzy to neutralize it and make it more manageable and less dried out.

Help for Damaged Hair

November 3, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

Have you over styled your hair in the past? Maybe undergone a great deal of chemical treatments or colors? If this has happened to you, you might be suffering from dry, damaged and frizzy hair. It can be extremely frustrating to style your hair if you are suffering from damage because you don’t want to further damage your hair or cause any more problems. Also, it can be intensely difficult to control frizzy dry hair.

Don’t worry, you don’t have to live your life under baseball caps or with your hair pulled back in pony tails. There is hope for you and for your hair. Because you can style your hair even if it’s damaged from past problems. The key is to use the right tools and products.

If you have the typical frizzy hair that results from damage, you can make it smooth without further harming it. Simply find yourself a quality hair straightener that is made from either ceramic or titanium plates. You should also invest in a straightener that has tourmaline technology. The tourmaline technology actually emits negative ions that work to smooth your hair, closing the hair shaft and allowing the hair to lay flat against your head. The hair will instantly look smoother, and healthier. And don’t worry about damaging your hair further with a hair straightener, because the tourmaline works to straighten your hair faster, your hair is exposed to heat for a much shorter period which means, it won’t result in damage.

You will also want to invest in a quality hair dryer for your hair. Again, you don’t need to worry about extra damage or causing your hair harm by using a blow dryer. But you must invest in a quality product. Look for a dryer that is made with ceramic coated elements and also utilizes tourmaline technology. You can dry your hair in a fraction of the time, without any of the damage because it isn’t being exposed to unnecessary heat. Also, the tourmaline works the same in the hair dryer as it does with the straightener. It will close your hair shaft, smoothing the hair follicle and creating hair that not only looks beautiful and shiny, but is also much healthier and more manageable.

You don’t have to be scared of hair tools and styling your hair if it’s damaged and over treated. With the right tools and a little bit of knowledge, your hair will look healthy, bouncy and more beautiful than you could imagine. Stop suffering from bad hair days, and get styling.

African American Hair is About Choice

October 20, 2008 by Elena · Leave a Comment

Almost every woman out there, no matter who you are, likes to change hair styles once in awhile. People with straight hair, like to go curly now and then, and those with naturally curly hair like to wear it straight for a change. It’s part of human nature to mix it up and try out different styles. But what if you have really hard to style hair? Does that mean that you’re stuck with the same look all the time?

The answer is no! African American hair is often considered to be very difficult to style because it tends to be thick, coarse and naturally curly. But even if you have this notoriously difficult to style hair doesn’t mean that you have to live with the same style every day. With the right hair products and styling tools, you can change your hair style as often as you change your clothes – as long as the mood suits you.

If you have dense, coarse and frizzy hair, you may be concerned when it comes to thinking about a hair straightener. And if you’ve tried an inexpensive straightener on your hair in the past you may have a very good reason to be concerned. But the technology in hair tools has grown leaps and bounds in recent years and there have been some amazing advances in hair care.

If you have black hair that is typically very hard to style and straighten, you don’t need to make the choice between curly or permanently straight. There used to be very little choice. You could go to the salon and spend hundreds of dollars for them to use chemicals to permanently straighten your hair, or you had to wear it curly all the time. Now, with a Karmin hair iron, you get to decide how you wear your hair every time you wake up.

The new advances in technology have introduced tourmaline hair straighteners which use the natural power of tourmaline to create beautiful hair. Tourmaline is a naturally occurring element that emits negative ions. These negative ions smooth the hair and close the cuticle to create beautiful, smooth healthy looking hair. Yes, even notoriously hard to style and straighten black hair is smoothed and straightened with these irons. And you don’t have to apply heat for long periods at a time either. Because these irons use far infrared technology to straighten, they dry the hair from the inside out which means you don’t need to expose the iron to the hair as long, which means – less risk of damaging your hair.

Even if you have already relaxed your hair chemically, but it’s not quite as straight or healthy looking as you would like, the best flat irons for African American relaxed hair is a Karmin hair iron. These irons won’t damage your hair like other irons and will give you the straight beautiful hair you desire.

Say goodbye to frizzy, damaged hair. By using a hair straightener with tourmaline technology, you will be able to straighten even the most difficult, coarse hair in half the time. The results will be silky, flowing hair that is healthy and shiny. And you don’t have to make the permanent decision to straighten with harsh chemicals. You can wear your hair straight one day and the next, wear your hair in your beautiful natural curls because a quality hair straightener, gives you choice.

Buying A Hair Dryer With Enough Wattage

August 29, 2008 by tracy · Leave a Comment

When you are shopping for a new hair dryer one of the things you should look other than ionic or tourmaline technology is the wattage rating for the unit. Professional hair dryers use 1500 to 1800 watts to dry hair quickly and efficiently. Cheaply made blow dryers have less wattage behind them and this allows the cuticles to curl up while you are drying resulting in frizzy hair that does not look nearly as good. Starting your hairstyle off with a proper dry can make the difference in looking your best or not.

How to Reduce Frizz

July 31, 2008 by Nicole · Leave a Comment

Having smooth, frizz free hair is a blessing. For most of us though we do a lot of damage in our everyday lifestyles. We need to blow-dry, we need to style with our high temperature heating tools and at the end of the day our hair has taken the blunt of it all. All of this can be avoided given  you follow some simple steps. I am not saying that you cannot use your hairstyling tools but just try using them in a different way. Don’t stick to one type of shampoo either, doing so will result in hair that just has no life. It is a good idea to change shampoos at least once a month. I‘m sure you  have seen the products on commercials and in Drug stores where they claim they can help reduce frizz, this is true but there is a technique to it where-as not everyone would know what this technique is.

Anytime you are wanting to reduce the amount of frizz, do so  by adding frizz free lotions or creams right after you are done washing your hair. Your hair must be absolutely soaking wet for almost any of these types of product to work. Removing any water from your hair reduces your chances of becoming “frizz free” So, while your hair is profusely dripping all over your bathroom floor add your preferred  frizz free tonic directly to your hair or use a quarter size dollop in your palms and then run it through with a wide tooth comb.  Using a wide tooth comb reduces frizz by allowing the curls or waves to stay together. When you use a brush or fine toothed comb you separate the curl thus giving the look of frizz once your hair is dry.

If you are needing to blow-dry your hair, try using a diffuser. A diffuser is an attachment you can obtain from most hair salons or Drug stores which attaches to the end of your hair dryer. There are diffusers now that are already attached and come as one. Air is dispersed evenly and in a much calmer fashion than a blow dryer. If you held a diffuser directly to your hair you would see minimal movement. Because of this air being distributed evenly throughout you are helping to improve the look of your hair by keeping your curls or waves together.

Use frizz free shampoo’s and conditioners,  you will find a product that works for you by trial and error or by word of mouth. I suggest buying from a salon because these products have the proper PH balance required to maintain a healthy head of hair.

If you are prone to frizz try to not brush out your hair when it is fully dry this again will separate your curls setting up the frizzies for sure. As mentioned use a pick or wide tooth comb and always start at the bottom and work your way up. Also, deep condition at least once a week using the leave-in 15 min. heat activated kind.

How do I know if I am using a Hair Straightener Right?

June 25, 2008 by Nicole · Leave a Comment

Using a hair straightener varies from hair type to hair type. If you have the kind of hair that no matter what you do it always looks healthy and shiny then go ahead, straighten, perm, color, it simply wont matter….YOU ARE LUCKY! If you have thin fine hair, never ever use a hair iron on full temperature, or any other heating product for that matter, you will burn your hair. Also, never use any kind of heating element on your hair until it is fully dry. Your hair will melt, and you will see smoke coming up from the iron.

burning-hair.jpg

From my findings, only very VERY thick course hair, “ethnic” hair, or that exquisite type of hair where it just doesn’t matter what they do, can use the highest temperature. Also, with this type of hair a hair straightener can be used on damp hair. ( Some reviews I have read will state that this is the only way to, in the long run, straighten their hair)

It is simply trial and error, but there is one strain of hair that absolutely, positively, cannot endure the risks of too much heat or having your hair still damp during hot iron use. That is thin….fine….hair!. It’s sad, I know, but fine thin hair is always the one you have to be wary of, well there are the “over permed, colored, frizzy types of hair also! They too have to be careful and use low settings and have their hair completely dry before attacking it with the heat. Excessive blow drying along with the use of any heating product is going to cause damage. Always start small and climb! Better to have used the lowest setting and not have to toss that burnt chunk of hair in your trash bin! burnt-hair.jpg

Till next time Good Luck,

Professional Hairstyling Tips

May 8, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Here are some tips for various kinds of hair types:

For thin hair always use a volumizer, you should choose products that will specify that it wont weigh your hair down. Wait until your hair is almost dry and blow dry upside down. Do not use your hands to shake your hair while drying, this tends to make hair look frizzy once your done.

fuller7_l.jpg

Pull your roots out with your fingers or a brush, firmly, hold the blow dryer to the roots for a few seconds, then take the blowdryer away and still holding onto your roots (almost pulling) let your hair cool down before letting go. Do this all over, tugging at your roots and holding hairdryer to them. This will give you volume from the root.

Try coloring your hair, this will give volume, manageability and body to fine thin hair. There are a ton of different colors to choose from and you could always just go with highlights or streaking. (your hair!)

For reviving a perm in between perms try using a curl enhancer.

red-hair.jpg

This look can be achieved by using Aveda curl enhancer, a hair diffuser, ( which is used to blow dry curls that will not seperate them while drying) drying upside down and scrunching.

For thick frizzy, wiry type hair I would suggest using a defrizzer or shiner, a straight iron will also help to flatten, smooth and gives greater control. Bumble & Bumble is just one of many different brands for helping tame frizz.

bumble.jpg

Although I do not normally suggest buying products from a store I recommend only one if you do and that is Sunsilk. I have said it before and I will say it again, “I have had nothing but good come out of using their products.” They have a whole product line for this type of hair, shampoo, conditioner and defrizzers.

Most products from the store are watered down and contain wax. Next time you shampoo your hair put a little baking soda in with it and wash normally. You will feel a huge difference in your hair because you just stripped all of the store bought products out of your hair. But DO NOT USE if you have to go out, you will have what looks like dandruff but is in fact flakes of all the stuff that we call wax coming out of your hair. Do the baking soda method a few times until you do not see any flakes. Unbelievable isn’t it?

Salon products are concentrated and are PH balanced for your hair. A normal ph balance is around 5.5.

To keep your hair in the style that you like, you must see your hairdresser regularly. A good haircut must be maintained and I suggest not waiting any longer than 6 weeks between visits. Until next time…Good luck!
